Things to do in Hastings: the Stade, parks and local arts

Plan a Hastings outing around the fishing beach, Old Town, Alexandra Park and local performances.

Choose one area before adding more stops

Hastings works well for an outing that combines a short walk with one main attraction, a meal or a performance. The Old Town and fishing quarter form one useful starting point, while Alexandra Park and the streets of St Leonards offer different kinds of visit.

Allow for hills and the distance between neighbourhoods. A trip to the castle, a park walk and a meal in St Leonards are separate parts of a day, rather than attractions that all sit beside the same shopping street.

Explore the Stade and Old Town

Start near the Stade for the fishing beach and the lanes of the Old Town. The boats and fishing buildings are part of a working place, so give crews and equipment space as you look around. Hastings Fishermen’s Museum provides context for what you see outside.

High Street and George Street are useful for adding a shop or food stop. Webbe’s Rock-a-Nore is close to the fishing quarter, while the Crown is on All Saints Street. Use current menus and contact details if you want to build a meal into the visit.

Plan for the hills and green spaces

Hastings Castle is a landmark on West Hill, with an outdoor ruined site and seasonal visitor arrangements. Check its own opening information before planning to enter. A hillside outing is different from a flat promenade stroll, particularly if you have particular access needs.

Alexandra Park offers paths around its water and mature planting, with different sections to explore. Hastings Museum and Art Gallery on Bohemia Road is another inland destination, with exhibitions and collections that can complement a town visit.

Look at St Leonards and an evening programme

Kings Road and Norman Road in St Leonards have independent food and shopping stops. Farmyard and Arigato provide different dining options, while the Grand Parade seafront offers another coastal starting point. Check the actual address when arranging to meet someone.

The White Rock programmes theatre, music, comedy and other events, with different spaces inside the venue. Our What’s On guide selects upcoming local dates; the venue’s own calendar remains the place for remaining tickets, access information and programme changes.
